We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Pulse Consultant who can provide practical and scientific guidance to farmers, producer organizations, cooperatives, agribusinesses, and development programs focused on pulse crops. The primary objective of this role is to improve the productivity, quality, sustainability, and profitability of pulse cultivation by supporting stakeholders with expert recommendations across the full crop cycle. The consultant will work with crops such as chickpea, pigeon pea, mung bean, urad bean, lentil, and field pea, helping clients adopt improved agronomic practices and solve field-level challenges effectively.
The Pulse Consultant will be expected to advise on seed selection, land preparation, sowing schedules, nutrient management, irrigation planning, weed control, integrated pest and disease management, harvesting practices, post-harvest handling, and storage systems. This role requires a strong understanding of pulse-based farming systems, local agro-climatic conditions, and the economic realities faced by growers. The successful candidate will assess crop performance, identify production constraints, and recommend tailored interventions that align with both scientific standards and practical field conditions.
In addition to technical advisory work, the consultant will play an important role in farmer capacity building. This includes organizing training sessions, conducting field demonstrations, developing extension materials, and communicating technical recommendations in a clear and accessible manner. The role may also involve collecting field data, preparing reports, monitoring project outcomes, and contributing to strategy development for pulse value chain improvement.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable collaborating with government agriculture departments, research institutions, input suppliers, procurement agencies, NGOs, and community-based organizations. A strong awareness of market trends, quality standards, processing opportunities, and sustainable agriculture practices will be highly valuable. The consultant should also be capable of using digital agriculture tools, mobile advisory platforms, and data-driven methods to improve decision-making and outreach.
This position is well suited for someone who is passionate about agricultural extension, pulse crop development, farmer engagement, and rural livelihood improvement. Success in this role requires a balanced combination of technical expertise, communication ability, analytical thinking, and a practical understanding of on-ground agricultural realities. If you are motivated to create measurable impact in pulse production systems and support farming communities with actionable solutions, this role offers a meaningful and rewarding opportunity.
